Frequently Asked Questions
Tirzepatide (Mounjaro/Zepbound) produces the most weight loss of any injectable GLP-1 medication — an average of 20.9% of body weight at the 15mg dose over 72 weeks. In the head-to-head SURMOUNT-5 trial, tirzepatide produced 47% more weight loss than semaglutide (Wegovy) at maximum doses. See our full comparison.
For weight loss (Wegovy/Zepbound): you need a BMI of 30 or higher, or a BMI of 27 or higher with at least one weight-related condition (hypertension, type 2 diabetes, dyslipidemia, or sleep apnea). For diabetes (Ozempic/Mounjaro): you need a type 2 diabetes diagnosis. Use our BMI Eligibility Calculator to check instantly.
List prices: Ozempic ~$935/month, Wegovy ~$1,349/month, Mounjaro ~$1,023/month, Zepbound autoinjector ~$1,060/month. The best self-pay option is Zepbound single-dose vials through LillyDirect at $349–$549/month. See the full Cost & Insurance Guide.
Mounjaro and Zepbound (tirzepatide) cause significantly less nausea — approximately 15–18% of patients vs 44% for Wegovy. The GIP receptor component of tirzepatide appears to counteract GLP-1-induced nausea.
Yes — most people regain weight after stopping. Clinical studies show approximately two-thirds of lost weight is regained within 1–2 years. Long-term use is generally required to maintain results.
Both contain semaglutide, but Wegovy's max dose is 2.4mg vs Ozempic's 2mg. Ozempic is FDA-approved for type 2 diabetes; Wegovy is FDA-approved for chronic weight management. Wegovy produces slightly more weight loss due to the higher dose.
